1 Motorcyclist Dies, Another Hospitalized after Santa Ysabel Motorcycle Crash on Highway 78 near Slaughterhouse Road
Santa Ysabel, California (January 11, 2021) – One motorcyclist was killed and another seriously injured in a Sunday evening multi-vehicle accident in Santa Ysabel, officials said.
At about 5:00 p.m., on January 10, the California Highway Patrol responded to the deadly accident on Highway 78 near Slaughterhouse Road.
The CHP said two motorcycles were headed westbound on the highway. One of the bikes, a 2020 Honda dual-sport bike, veered to the right side and off the roadway and crashed into a rock, ejecting the rider onto the road.
The other motorcyclist crossed over double yellow lines and smashed into a 2003 Ford Focus that was traveling eastbound. The rider was ejected onto the roadway, the officials said.
One motorcyclist was pronounced dead at the scene. The other rider was flown to a hospital with major injuries.
A 71-year-old San Diego man, who was the Ford driver, sustained minor injuries and was not hospitalized. Two other passengers in the Ford were not injured.
The factors that contributed to the accident are yet to be established.
An investigation into the collision is underway.
