1 Killed, Six Injured in Modesto Car Crash at Claribel and Langworth Roads

Modesto, California (December 7, 2020) – A 20-year-old woman from Oakland was killed, and six other people were injured in a two-vehicle collision that occurred in Modesto on Saturday night.

The collision happened at the intersection of Claribel and Langworth roads at around 10:12 p.m. December 5.

According to the California Highway Patrol, Nicolas Villela,19, of Modesto, was driving a 2012 Nissan sedan westbound on Claribel Road with at least six occupants inside when he failed to stop at a stop sign at the intersection and crashed into a 2019 Chevrolet sedan heading north on Langworth Road.

The CHP said both vehicles struck a power pole before coming to a stop.

The Oakland woman, who was a passenger in the Chevrolet, was killed in the crash.

The Chevrolet driver, Deborah Mendez, 19, of Riverbank, was taken to Doctors Medical Center with major injuries.

Villela was taken to Memorial Medical Center for treatment of abrasions and was also arrested for felony DUI and gross vehicular manslaughter.

Four other people in the Nissan were transported to different hospitals with minor to major injuries.

The accident is under investigation.
