Fresno Head-On Accident on Highway 180 Kills 19-Year-Old Jose Gomez

Fresno, California (January 14, 2021) – The Fresno County Coroner’s Office has identified the Coalinga male victim who died after two vehicles crashed on a highway in Fresno, Monday afternoon, as 19-year-old Jose Castellanos Gomez.

Police responded to the deadly head-on crash site in the afternoon hours on Highway 180 at Blythe Avenue.

The accident happened whean a Volkswagen driven by Gomez, on the roadway, lost control and swerved into the opposite lane for reasons still under investigation. The Volkswagen then crashed head-on with a big rig.

Gomez was declared dead at the scene.

Meanwhile, the operator of the big rig was not injured following the mishap.

Intoxication was not believed to be a factor in the wreck.

An investigation into the accident is underway.
