5 Killed in Head-On Collision on I-5 Freeway in Firebaugh
Firebaugh, California (January 7, 2020) – The California Highway Patrol is investigating a head-on collision that happened on Tuesday night leaving five people dead.
The deadly collision happened at around 9 p.m. in the southbound lanes of Interstate 5.
The CHP said a pickup truck traveling northbound drifted into southbound lanes and collided head-on with a big rig.
Both vehicles caught fire after the crash, causing damages to the road.
Five people including a 31-year-old woman who was eight months pregnant, her two children, 8 and 10-year-old, and her 52-year-old mother-in-law, were pronounced dead at the scene.
All victims were from Northern California, but their names were not immediately disclosed.
The CHP closed a portion of the southbound lanes for several hours as they investigated the incident.
No other information about the accident was provided.
An investigation into the accident is underway.
