Margarita Reyes Killed in Multi-Vehicle Collision on Compton Avenue in Florence
Florence, California (December 11, 2020) – Margarita Reyes, 54, of Los Angeles, has been identified as the passenger who was killed in a multi-vehicle collision in the unincorporated Florence-Firestone area of South Los Angeles on Wednesday evening.
The California Highway Patrol said the accident was reported at around 6:40 p.m. December 9, on Compton Avenue near 81st Street.
John Cardenas, 23, of Compton, was driving a 2005 Toyota southbound on Compton Avenue when he drifted into the opposite lanes and collided head-on with a 2014 Nissan.
The Toyota then struck a 2015 Nissan that was traveling northbound on Compton Avenue.
A Metro Media Relations bus that was traveling southbound on Compton Avenue was also involved in the accident.
Reyes, who was a passenger in 2014 Nissan, was killed in the crash.
24-year-old George Ortega, of Los Angeles, who was driving the 2014 Nissan was seriously injured in the accident.
The 2015 Nissan driver, 39-year-old Faustino Acosta, and his passenger were hospitalized with major injuries.
Gardenas was also seriously injured in the accident and was transported to the hospital for treatment.
The CHP said three other passengers in the 2015 Nissan suffered moderate injuries.
No further information about the accident was provided.
An investigation into the accident is ongoing.
