Kevin Cardenas Killed in Redding Pedestrian Crash on Interstate 5 Freeway near Cypress Avenue
Redding, California (December 11, 2020) – Kevin Gustavo Cardenas, 28, of Whittier, has been identified by the Shasta County Coroner’s Office as the man who was killed in a pedestrian accident in Redding on Monday morning.
According to the California Highway Patrol, the fatal auto-pedestrian accident happened at around 5 a.m. December 7, on Interstate 5 Freeway near Cypress Avenue.
Kevin was walking along the shoulder of northbound I-5 when he stepped into the traffic lane for unknown reasons and was struck by a big rig.
The CHP responded to the incident and pronounced the pedestrian dead at the scene.
The truck driver said he thought he had struck an animal.
The collision caused a temporary closure of the northbound lanes of the freeway as authorities examined the scene.
No additional information about the accident was provided.
The accident is under investigation.
