Derek Radcliffe Identified as Fortuna Man Killed in Loleta Pedestrian Accident on Highway 101 near Loleta Drive

Loleta, California (December 24, 2020) – Authorities have identified the man who was hit and killed by vehicles on Friday night in Loleta as Derek Radcliffe, 40, of Fortuna.

At about 8:00 p.m., on December 18, the California Highway Patrol responded to the deadly pedestrian accident on Highway 101, south of Loleta Drive.

According to the officials, Radcliffe, who was dressed in dark clothing, was walking eastward across the highway when a northbound 2010 Toyota, driven by Scarlett Pettyjohn 50, of Los Angeles, struck him.

Radcliffe was then hit by a 2006 Chevrolet, operated by Thomas Akin 57, of Visalia, the officials said.

Sadly, Radcliffe was pronounced dead at the crash site. It was not clear if Radcliffe was intoxicated at the time of the accident.

Both Pettyjohn and Akin were not under the influence of drugs or alcohol when the crash occurred.
