Ralph Stevenson ID’d as Man Injured in Merced County Motorcycle Crash at Beachwood Drive and Ashby Road
Merced County, California (November 4, 2020) – Ralph Stevenson, 77, of Atwater, has been identified as the man who was seriously injured in a hit-and-run motorcycle accident on Tuesday evening in Merced County, authorities said.
At about 5:30 p.m., on November 3, the California Highway Patrol responded to the major injury traffic accident at Beachwood Drive and Ashby Road.
The CHP said a white 1997 to 2001 Honda Prelude was traveling southbound on Beachwood Drive when the driver allegedly ran a red light at the intersection and traveled into the path of a Triumph motorcycle that was heading westbound on Ashby Road, driven by Stevenson.
Unfortunately, the front left of the Honda struck the motorcycle, and the Honda’s front bumper was ripped off due to the crash impact, the officials said.
Following the collision, Stevenson was ejected onto the roadway. He was airlifted to Doctors Medical Center in Modesto with major injuries.
Witnesses told the authorities that the Honda drove away on Ashby Road but then returned to the scene so a passenger could retrieve the bumper.
The Honda was last seen driving northbound on Beachwood Drive. The Honda’s passenger was described as a heavyset adult male with short shaved hair, the authorities said.
An investigation into the accident is underway. Anyone with information about the suspect’s whereabouts is urged to call the Merced CHP Area Office at 209-356-6600.
