Long Beach Pedestrian Collision on Martin Luther King Jr. Avenue Left Leonard Smith Dead
Long Beach, California (November 6, 2020) – The Long Beach police have identified the victim who was struck and killed by an alleged hit-and-run driver in Long Beach on August 23 as Leonard Smith of Long Beach.
Officials responded to the fatal crash site at around 3:10 p.m. in the 1990 block of Martin Luther King Jr. Avenue.
Smith was reportedly struck by a 2000 Cadillac driven by a 30-year-old Lancaster man in the afternoon hours in unclear circumstances.
Meanwhile, the involved motorist did not stop to render aid and fled the scene.
Smith died at the hospital on September 6 while undergoing treatment.
Officials affirmed the involved motorist came back to the crash site, but they did not arrest him.
Neither alcohol nor drugs were suspected factors in the mishap. An investigation into the accident is underway.
