Jose Gastelum Killed in Bicycle Accident at 1st and Reed Streets in San Jose
San Jose, California (February 5, 2021) – Jose Francisco Gastelum, 36, has been identified as the male bicyclist who was killed in a Sunday morning hit-and-run crash in San Jose, authorities said.
At about 4:27 a.m., on January 31, the officials responded to the deadly bicycle accident at the intersection of South 1st Street and Reed Street.
A Chevrolet Silverado was reportedly headed northbound on southbound 1st Street when it struck Gastelum, who was riding his bicycle on the roadway.
Sadly, Gastelum was declared dead at the scene.
The involved driver fled the scene and is being sought by the police. The suspect’s vehicle was described as a 2016 or 2017 black Chevrolet Silverado with a crew cab and a bed cover and should have front-end damage. It was last seen heading northbound on southbound 1st Street.
An investigation into the accident is underway. Anyone with information on the suspect’s whereabouts is asked to call the authorities at 408-277-4654.
