Man Killed, Another Injured in San Diego Car Crash on Mission Gorge Road near Golfcrest Drive
1 Killed, 1 Injured in Wrong-Way Collision on Mission Gorge Road in San Diego
San Diego, California (December 5, 2020) – A man was killed and another was injured in a wrong-way collision on Friday evening in San Diego.
The fatal collision happened at about 6 p.m. on Mission Gorge Road just east of Golfcrest Drive.
The San Diego police said a 59-year-old man in a 1984 Toyota pickup was traveling northbound on Mission Gorge Road when he collided head-on with a 2003 four-door Acura sedan that was traveling on the wrong side of the road.
Both drivers were pinned inside their vehicles and had to be extricated by officers from the San Diego Fire-Rescue Department and Heartland Fire & Rescue.
The Acura driver was airlifted to Scripps Memorial Hospital La Jolla, where he succumbed to his injuries.
The other driver was taken to Scripps Mercy Hospital in Hillcrest by ambulance for treatment of serious but non-life-threatening injuries.
No additional information about the accident was provided.
An investigation into the accident is underway.
