Scott Hamers ID’d as Man Killed in Benicia Pedestrian Crash on East 2nd Street
Benicia, California (November 12, 2020) – The Solano County coroner’s office has identified Scott Hamers, 48, as the transient man who was hit and killed by a police patrol car on Wednesday morning in Benicia.
The fatal pedestrian crash occurred in the 1900 block of East 2nd Street at about 2:00 a.m. on November 11.
According to the police, an on-duty police officer in a patrol car struck the Hamers in unclear circumstances.
It was not clear if Hamers was in a crosswalk or how fast the patrol car was going at the time.
Hamers was pronounced dead at the scene.
The involved officer, who was not responding to a call for service at the time, was not injured in the accident.
The roadway was closed for an unknown period due to the accident.
The California Highway Patrol is investigating the accident.
